OU Wins Eighth Straight With Victory at Iowa State

AMES, Iowa — Make that eight straight victories for the No. 23 Oklahoma soccer team.
The Sooners (10-2-1 overall, 3-0-0 Big 12) continued their recent winning streak with a 3-0 victory at Iowa State (7-4-0 overall, 1-2-0 Big 12) inside the Cyclone Sports Complex on Friday night.
The win gives OU its first 3-0 start in Big 12 play since 2005, when it also opened conference play with three straight wins. Additionally, the eight-game winning streak is the second longest in program history behind a stretch in 2005 when the Sooners won nine straight.
This marks the third season in a row that the Sooners have reached the 10-win threshold and the eighth time in their history.
"Proud of the team to earn a tough road win," fifth-year OU head coach Matt Potter said. "Really pleasing was the maturity of the performance in the second half. We weathered the pressure we knew Iowa State would bring, keeping a clean sheet, and found ways to possess and execute the thoughts of halftime.The goals were a welcome reward for good team play, and sharing the minutes speaks to the group mentality."
A trio of Sooner seniors in midfielder Shiloh Price, defender Rachel Ressler and midfielder/forward Madison Saliba scored in the match. Price contributed to all three goals, also tallying a pair of assists.
The goal was the fourth for Ressler this season, second most on the team, third for Price and second for Saliba. OU outshot the Cyclones, 18-6, including a 6-2 mark in shots on goal.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Kassidie Stade and the OU defense tallied their fifth shutout of the season and second of conference play. Stade finished the match with two saves.
With the Sooners putting pressure on the Cyclone defense inside the box, Price was able to chip a shot in from just in front of the goal off an assist from junior midfielder Tori Bowman to put OU on top in the 30th minute.
The Sooners came out firing in the second half and stretched their lead to 2-0 just over a minute into the frame. After Price took a shot that bounced just off the post, Ressler corralled the rebound and sent the ball into the net in the 47th minute.
In the 84th minute, Saliba added to the OU lead after sending an outstanding shot into the top corner of the box from about 23 yards out. Classmate Price recorded her fourth assist of the season on the score, tying her for the team high.
The Sooners will close the weekend with a top-25 showdown with No. 4 West Virginia in Morgantown, W.Va. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. CT start and will air live on ESPNU and WatchESPN. This season, the Sooners are celebrating 20 years of their program, which began in 1996.
