TUCSON, Ariz. — A pair of second-half goals pushed the Oklahoma soccer team to its fourth straight victory as it defeated Arizona, 2-1, on Friday night inside Mulcahy Stadium.
This season, the Sooners (6-2-1 overall) have scored 14 of their 17 goals in the second half or overtime. The Wildcats (5-2-1 overall) outshot OU by a narrow 11 to nine mark, including a five to four advantage in shots on goal.
Senior defender Rachel Ressler and senior forward Liz Keester both scored in the contest, marking the third and team-high fourth scores for the players this season, respectively.
"This is a great road win! Arizona is incredibly challenging to play against and so good on set pieces," fifth-year OU head coach Matt Potter said. "In the second half we were able to adjust and find the quality to win the game. I am very proud."
The Wildcats got on the board first as sophomore midfielder Kennedy Kieneker sent in the score off an assist from senior midfielder Jaden DeGracie-Bailey in the 30th minute.
In the 55th minute, the Sooners responded with the equalizer from Ressler, a native of Phoenix, Ariz. Keester continued her recent hot streak as she scored a goal for the fourth consecutive match, this one coming in the 81st minute off an assist from classmate Madison Saliba. The score was Keester's team-best third game winner of the season.
With the win, OU redshirt senior Kassidie Stade moved to 6-2-1 on the season, recording four saves. Arizona sophomore Lainey Burdett recorded two saves and fell to 2-1-0 this season.
The Sooners will conclude their weekend and a six-match road trip with a match at Grand Canyon. The contest is slated for 3 p.m. CT on Sunday in Phoenix, Ariz., and will be streamed live on the WAC Digital Network. This season, the Sooners are celebrating 20 years of their program, which began in 1996.
