NORMAN – Oklahoma rower Andreja Kekic is set to compete for Slovenia at the Under 23 World Rowing Championships, scheduled for Aug. 21-28 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The Piran, Slovenia, native will contend in the 15-team women's double sculls event with Slovenian teammate Valentina Miklavcic. Preliminary heats for the event begin at 3:30 a.m. CT Sunday, with the semifinals slated for 9 a.m. CT Tuesday. Event finals will be held on Sunday, Aug. 28.
“We are so proud of Adreja competing at the championships,” OU head coach Leeanne Crain said. ”She made an immediate impact last spring, and continued to develop throughout the season. It's great to have one of our student-athletes representing OU at the international level.”
Kekic also competed in the Junior Women's Single Sculls at the 2014 World Rowing Junior Championships in Hamburg, Germany. The OU sophomore regularly rowed in the second varsity eight last spring after opting to come to campus a semester early. Kekic's boat placed second at the 2016 Big 12 Championships.
