LAWRENCE, Kan. -  Inclement weather clouded the first day at the NCAA West Prelim in Lawrence, Kan., preventing the completion of any events on the opening day of the meet.

It will be an early day for the Oklahoma track and field teams as action resumes on Friday with the women's and men's 10K slated for starts at 8 a.m. and 8:40 a.m., respectively. The events were originally scheduled for 9 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. on Thursday night.

OU's Brittany Tretbar and Elena Arriaza will compete in the women's event followed by Dan Schubert in the men's race.

With problematic field conditions including flooded lanes and runways, overturned fences and timing tents, officials announced that the men's and women's pole vault would be relocated to Anschutz Pavilion, Kansas' indoor track and field facility. The men's competition begins at 11:30 a.m. and the women's at 5 p.m.

Both divisions of the high jump will move indoors as well on Friday. OU's Carl Williams will compete in the men's section at 2:30 p.m.

Running events will change as follows: the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and hurdles will run as quarterfinals. The heat winner and the next six fastest times will advance. The 1500 will advance the top two of each heat plus the next four fastest times advance. The women's 100 meter will be the first event on the track at 9:20 a.m. and includes Sooner Leya Buchanan.

Thursday's first delay, caused by nearby lightning, occurred around 2:45 p.m. with the women's javelin and men's hammer throw in progress.

Charles Nguyen was OU's only competitor to complete his event. He participated in the first of three flights of the hammer before action was postponed at the beginning of the third flight. He recorded a 199-3.00, but it will not be enough to advance to the national meet in Eugene, Ore., June 8-11.

Javelin thrower Liz Herrs did not have a chance to compete with the first delay interrupting flight three's warmups on two different occasions. Javelin will resume at 9 a.m.

Competition resumed around 3:35 p.m., but flash flood warnings, a tornado watch and severe thunderstorms suspended events for the remainder of the day.
