Sooners Set for NCAA Stillwater Regional

NORMAN – The No. 20 Oklahoma men's golf team aims to qualify for its sixth straight NCAA Championships at the NCAA Stillwater Regional this week. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will take place May 16-18 (Monday-Wednesday) at the par-72, 7,418-yard Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.
The regional is one of six 54-hole preliminary events for the NCAA Championships finals. The low five teams and low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA finals, scheduled for May 27-June 1 at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
“We are excited to be headed to Stillwater and to stay close to home,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “This is championship season and this is why our guys come to Oklahoma – to compete for championships. Regionals is a fun week to see what your guys are made of, and this is what we have been working for all year.”
The Sooners, who are seeded No. 3 in the regional, are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship with a four-round 1176 (+24). Sophomore Grant Hirschman tied for sixth place, the best finisher on the squad, after firing a 63 (-9) in the third round, setting a record for both the Big 12 Championship and Whispering Pines Golf Club and matching the OU single-round record.
OU's lineup for the regional will include senior Luke Kwon, junior Max McGreevy, Hirschman and freshmen Brad Dalke and Blaine Hale.
The Sooners will tee off from hole No. 1 beginning at 8 a.m. Monday and will be paired with No. 1 seed Oklahoma State and No. 2 seed Clemson.

Grant Hirschman, Sophomore: Led the Sooners at the Big 12 Championship, tying for sixth after firing a 63 (-9) in the third round, setting a record for both the Championship and Whispering Pines Golf Club and matching the OU single-round record … Collected his second career top-five placing at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational with a fourth-place finish after firing a 208 (-5), his career-low 54-hole score … Holds 13 career top-20 finishes, tallying four this season.
3. Luke Kwon, Senior: Took first place at the Puerto Rico Individual Classic by seven strokes, shooting each round in the 60s and recording a career-low 67 in the second round and a career-low 54-hole 205 (-8) … Holds one other top-five finish with a second-place finish at the Gopher Invitational … Tied for eighth at the Southern Highlands Collegiate and claimed shares of 10th at the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational and the Carmel Cup to total five top-10 finishes this season.
4. Brad Dalke, Freshman: Led the Sooners at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational at second place overall, his first career top-five finish, with his lowest 54-hole score, 206 (-7) … Has four top-20 finishes with his showings at the Ka'anapali Classic, Gopher Invitational (T6th), U.S. Collegiate (T18th) and most recently the Southern Highlands Collegiate (T8th) … Named Big 12 Golfer of the Month for November … Won the 2015 Junior PGA Championship.
5. Blaine Hale, Freshman: Tied for sixth place at the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational, his first collegiate event … Finished in a tie for 25th in the Puerto Rico Classic, recording his second career round in the 60s with a 69 in the first round … Most recently, tied for 28th at the Maxwell and tied for 29th at the Big 12 Championship.
THE COURSE
The par-72, 7,418-yard Karsten Creek Golf Club will serve as the site for the NCAA Stillwater Regional.
FORMAT
Fifty-four holes will be played over three days. The first round is slated to begin Monday at 8 a.m. CT, and the Sooners will tee off starting at 8 a.m. from hole No. 1. The second round is scheduled to start Tuesday at 8 a.m., and the final round will begin Wednesday at 7:30 a.m.

OU'S NCAA REGIONAL HISTORY
Last year, the Sooners claimed a 20-stroke victory at the NCAA San Diego Regional in San Diego, Calif., to advance to the NCAA Championships for the fifth year in a row and the 36th time overall. At the national tournament in Bradenton, Fla., OU finished in a tie for 28th place.
