NORMAN – University of Oklahoma rower Marissa Beene was named to the CoSIDA District Seven Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Thursday.
Beene, a senior from Tempe, Ariz., holds a 4.0 GPA in computer science. She is one of 12 female student-athletes from region seven to be named to the team, which is comprised of the nation's top student-athletes based on combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
The Academic All-District teams include student-athletes who are divided into eight geographical districts across the U.S. and Canada. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Beene was recognized earlier this week as one of ten student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA named to the Big 12 All-Academic Team and was named the Senior Student-Athlete of the Year at the annual spring rowing banquet.
She and the Sooners return to the course this Saturday and Sunday in Oak Ridge, Tenn., for the 2016 Big 12 Championship.
