Sooners Finish Fourth in Big 12 Championship

NORMAN – The No. 20 Oklahoma men's golf team claimed fourth place in the Big 12 Championship with a four-round 1176 (+24). The three-day, 72-hole tournament took place at the par-72, 7,473-yard Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.
The Sooners recorded a 291 (+3) on Sunday to finish in fourth for the third consecutive round.
“We didn't do anything good or bad necessarily today, we just haven't been able to get the ball in the hole quick enough,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “We have got to continue to get better because hopefully we have a lot of golf left.”
Texas, who is ranked No. 1 by Golfweek/Sagarin, claimed this year's Big 12 title with an overall 1138 (-14). No. 7 Oklahoma State was a distant runner-up at 1164 (+12), and No. 40 Texas Tech took third with an 1165 (+13). No. 29 Baylor's four-round 1182 (+30) earned the Bears a fifth-place finish.
Sophomore Grant Hirschman was the best finisher for the Sooners, claiming a tie for sixth with an overall 286 (-2) after posting a 74 (+2) Sunday. This finish marks the Collierville, Tenn., native's eighth career top-10 finish and third of the season.
Junior Max McGreevy finished in a tie for 21st with a four-round 298 (+10). He carded a 72 (E) in the fourth round, pocketing two birdies en route to his best round of the tournament.
Finishing one stroke behind McGreevy was senior Luke Kwon, who ended in a tie for 25th place. Kwon carded a 74 (+2) Sunday and collected two birdies.
Freshmen Blaine Hale and Brad Dalke finished their Big 12 Championship debuts with a share of 29th place at 301 (+13). Hale saved his best round for last, tallying a 71 (-1) Sunday and shooting four birdies. Dalke recorded a 77 (+5) on Sunday.
The Sooners will be back in action at an NCAA Regional on May 16-18. The selections for the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship will be announced starting at 8:30 a.m. CT on Thursday, May 5 live on the Golf Channel.
