OU Wraps up Clemson Invitational

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's rowing team competed in five races on Sunday morning to complete the Clemson Invitational. The regatta was held at Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C.

In the morning's final session, Oklahoma matched up with No. 3 Virginia, No. 10 Michigan, No. 19 Syracuse, Penn and UCLA, and the 3V8 faced Virginia, No. 4 Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan State, Syracuse, and UCF.

The first and second varsity fours each picked up fourth-place finishes in their respective events, with the 1V4 coming across the line in 7:43.9 and the 2V4 in 7:41.5. Both crews defeated the UCLA and Penn fours.

The first varsity eight started out the day coming in sixth place in 7:00.3, and the 2V8 finished in 7:09.9 for a sixth-place showing. The Sooners' third varsity eight registered a fifth-place finish (7:06.1), defeating both Clemson and UCF.

“It was a great weekend of racing and gave us the opportunity to see some of the top programs in the country,” OU head coach Leeanne Crain said. “We are continuing to develop and improve as we progress through the season, and I'm confident we're going to continue to gain speed.”

The OU 1V4 highlighted the Sooners' Saturday performance, coming in third in the morning race ahead of No. 20 Louisville. The boat changed lineups and the strong showing carried on into the afternoon session as it finished second in its division, beating No. 14 Washington State and finishing just six seconds behind No. 10 Michigan.

The Sooners return to action next Saturday, April 23, in Madison, Wisc., for the Big 12/Big 10 Double Dual. Full Clemson Invitational results can be found on ClemsonTigers.com.
