NORMAN – The No. 17 Oklahoma men's golf team moved into a tie for eighth place after the second round of the elite Southern Highlands Collegiate with an overall 586 (+10). The three-day, 54-hole tournament is taking place at the par-72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev.

Beginning the round in 12th place, the Sooners fired a 283 (-5) Tuesday, marking the second-best round of the day behind only tournament-leader USC's 208 (-8).

"Anytime you get under par at Southern Highlands is a successful day, and we will take it," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said.

The Trojans, ranked No. 8 by Golfweek/Sagarin, are in front of one of the best fields in college golf, which features nine teams in the top 20 and 14 in the top 40, with a 572 (-8). No. 14 Arizona State holds second with a 579 (+3), and No. 5 Texas and No. 2 Florida are tied for third at 581 (+5). Rounding out the top five is No. 35 SMU with a 583 (+7).

Junior Max McGreevy leads the Sooners, holding sixth place with a two-round 141 (-3). After shooting bogeys on his first two holes of the round, McGreevy recovered by carding at or below par on the remaining 16 holes, pocketing five birdies and an eagle. His second-round 67 (-5) is the lowest score among all competitors at the tournament so far and marks his 20th career round in the 60s.

Also in the top 20 for OU is Brad Dalke, who shares 12th place with an overall even-par 144. The freshman put together an impressive round, collecting five birdies en route to a 68 (-4), advancing him 34 spots in the individual rankings.

"We had two guys, Max and Brad, that played great rounds for us today," Hybl said. "They put us in a great spot for tomorrow, and now we need all five guys to kick it into high gear for the final round."

Senior Luke Kwon is in a tie for 30th with an overall 147 (+3). He recorded a 73 (+1) for the round.

At 156 (+12), sophomore Grant Hirschman and Blaine Hale have a share of 65th place. After struggling at the onset of the round, Hirschman turned around to shoot three birdies on the last six holes, finishing with a 75 (+3). Hale showed improvement Tuesday, firing a 77 (+5).

The final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate is scheduled to begin Wednesday morning, and the Sooners will tee off at 10 CT from hole No. 1. Live stats will be available on GolfStat.com.
