Oklahoma Heads to Tulsa for In-State Matchup
March 08, 2016 | Women's Tennis
NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma women's tennis travels to Tulsa, Okla., Wednesday to face in-state rival No. 21 Tulsa at 5 p.m. CT.
Tulsa is 12-2 this season with its most recent victory coming over conference opponent South Florida, 4-3, at home.
“We have always had very tight contests with Tulsa through the years and I don't expect Wednesday to be any different," OU head coach David Mullins said.
Oklahoma (5-5) looks to rebound after dropping its last matchup with conference rival No. 10 Oklahoma State, 5-2, in Stillwater last Saturday. The Sooners are currently 2-3 on the road. Their most recent road win came against unranked UMKC, 7-0.
"We had definitely lost some belief in ourselves due to our setbacks in February, but Saturday's performance helped us regain a lot of confidence going forward," Mullins said. "We understand again that we can compete with anyone in the country, but we still need to go out on Wednesday and backup some of our fine play from this past weekend.”
The Sooners faced the Golden Hurricane in Norman last season, taking a 5-2 victory. In Mullins' tenure, Oklahoma is 5-3 against Tulsa with three of the five wins coming on the road including a 4-3 victory in 2014. OU is 29-6 all-time against the Golden Hurricane in 35 previous meetings.
