OU Secures Four Wins on Saturday

NORMAN – The Oklahoma rowing team racked up four wins in two sessions of racing on Saturday at the Cardinal Invitational. The regatta is being held at Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

The Sooners started out hot in the morning, taking first place in the 2V8, 1V4 and 2V4 races.

In the 1V4 race, OU crossed the finish line in 7:25.42, four seconds in front of second-place Kansas, and the 2V8 also bested Kansas by four seconds to place first. The 2V4 was the third Sooner boat to take a title, finishing in 7:26.23, an impressive 10 seconds in front of Kansas.

OU's 1V8 took second place, completing the 2K race in 6:35.22, and the 3V8 finished fourth with a time of 7:07.30.

The 1V4 nabbed its second win of the day in the afternoon slate of competition, crossing the line in 7:37.813, five seconds in front of second-place Minnesota.

The 1V8 closed the day with a third-place finish, posting a time of 6:52.020, while the 2V8 took second place behind Minnesota with a time of 6:48.009. The 3V8 completed the race in fourth with a 7:39.534, and the 2V4 tallied a second-place finish, posting a time of 7:38.617.

OU head coach Leeanne Crain said she was excited to see her team compete for the first time this spring.

“We gained some valuable experience today,” Crain said. “We hope to continue to improve as we go through this first weekend of racing.”

The Sooners will compete in five races on Sunday, beginning at 10:06 a.m. CT.
