NORMAN – The No. 7 Oklahoma men's golf team surged into third place after the second round of the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is taking place at the par-71, 6,700-yard Royal Ka'anapali Course at the Ka'anapali Golf Club in Lahaina, Maui, Hawai'i.
The Sooners shot a 271 (-13), their lowest team round of the fall season, on Saturday. Four members of the team lineup finished the day under par, and the squad now sits at 561 (-7) through 36 holes.
“It was a nice round for us collectively, which is great to see,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “The winds were down all day, so the golf course played much easier. We will need some serious firepower tomorrow to get back in the chase, but I know our guys will be up for it.”
No. 15 Georgia leads the 24-team field at 550 (-18), and No. 13 LSU is in second, one stroke ahead of OU. No. 24 Clemson, No. 37 Kansas and No. 39 South Carolina share fourth at 562 (-6).
Blaine Hale paces the Sooners, tied for fifth with a total of 136 (-6). The sophomore shot a 66 (-5) in the second round, matching his career low and marking his fifth career round in the 60s. He pocketed four birdies and an eagle on the day and carded a bogey-free back nine.
One stroke behind Hale is senior Max McGreevy, who is tied for 10th. He tallied six birdies en route to a second-round 67 (-4), his sixth round in the 60s of the season and 28th of his career.
Junior Grant Hirschman and freshman Riley Casey are tied for 39th at 144 (+2). Both Sooners shot a 69 (-2) on Saturday, carding five and four birdies, respectively. The total marks Hirschman's fourth round in the 60s of the season and Casey's first.
Rounding out the OU team lineup is sophomore Brad Dalke, who is tied for 59th at 147 (+5). He posted a 72 (+1) in the second round with four birdies.
Redshirt freshman Quade Cummins is competing as an individual and is unattached from team scoring. He shot a 68 (-3) on Saturday, his career low and first career round in the 60s. Cummins now sits at 148 (+6) in a tie for 69th, a 40-place climb from the first round.
The final round of the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic is set to begin Sunday at 12:30 p.m. CT. Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.com.
