No. 7 Sooners to Conclude Fall in Hawai'i
November 03, 2016 | Men's Golf
NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's golf team ends its fall season this weekend at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played Friday-Sunday (Nov. 4-6) at the par-71, 6,700-yard Royal Ka'anapali Course at the Ka'anapali Golf Club in Lahaina, Maui, Hawai'i.
The Sooners claimed the team title at the 2015 Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic. OU head coach Ryan Hybl said his squad will look to replicate past success in its return to the tournament.
“The expectations are super high because we won there last year, and I like that because I think our guys play better when they know they're supposed to go out there and win a golf tournament like this,” he said. “It is a better field than last year, so we're going to have to bring our A-game.
“The boys like this place,” Hybl continued. “I think there's always a comfort level when you know your guys already like a golf course. We've got some guys playing some pretty good golf, and it would be great to end the fall season on a high note like last year. At the end of the day, we're just trying to have an opportunity.”
Seventh-ranked OU is back in action after finishing in sixth place, just three strokes out of first, at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. Facing the best field of the fall, senior Max McGreevy received co-medalist honors to earn his second career tournament win.
The Sooner lineup for this weekend will include McGreevy, junior Grant Hirschman, sophomores Brad Dalke and Blaine Hale and freshman Riley Casey. Redshirt freshman Quade Cummins will compete as an individual and be unattached from team scoring.
