Men's Golf Inks Two for Next Year

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head men's golf coach Ryan Hybl announced Friday the signing of two golfers to national letters of intent during the 2016-17 early signing period. Joining the Sooners next season will be Jackson Bugdalski and Lane Wallace.
Hybl commended the duo for their accomplishments, emphasizing Bugdalski's junior college success and Wallace's endeavors in the junior golf circuit.
“We're looking forward to having both of these guys be an impact right out of the gates,” he said. “I like where both of them are with their games, and we're excited about getting them here on campus next fall.”
JACKSON BUGDALSKI
Kings Langley, New South Wales, Australia
Indian Hills Community College
Currently a sophomore at Indian Hills Community College, Bugdalski has already earned national attention for his impressive collegiate career. In the spring of his freshman season, the Australian product recorded a 70.45 stroke average over 20 rounds, earning individual medalist honors in five of seven meets.
His first-year campaign earned him the 2016 Phil Mickleson Award for most outstanding freshman in the NJCAA Division I. Additionally, Bugdalski was named an NJCAA Division I PING All-America first-team selection, to the NJCAA Division I All-Freshman team and to the 2016 All-Nicklaus Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

“He's dominated in junior college. Any time you've got a guy that can win, I think you've got a player, and he's already started to prove that again this fall. I think that he's going to be a little bit more of a grown man outside of just a freshman coming in, so his attitude will be different. The transition from high school to college won't be there. It'll be a transition for him, but he's already going to have gone through that transition a little bit, so we're excited about that and the leadership I think he can provide for us pretty early.”
LANE WALLACE

Oklahoma native Wallace will join the Sooners after an already-impressive junior golf career. The two-time U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier (2015, 2016) and 2016 Junior PGA Championship qualifier has recorded four top-10 finishes in American Junior Golf Association competitions. On the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour, Wallace notched 18 top-five finishes in his career and posted a 68.8 stroke average in 2016.
In high school competition, Wallace is on track to letter all four years. Through his junior year, he has won 12 high school tournaments, and he finished in the top five at the 2016 6A Oklahoma State Championship.

“Lane's one of the best players in the Class of 2017 in the central part of the country, one of the best players in our state, and we're excited to have him here. What's interesting about Lane is he is a really good ball striker. He keeps the ball, for the most part, in play all the time. Short game continues to get better, and if he continues to be a good putter, he's going to be fine. He thinks that he's supposed to be great, and that's going to keep making him be that much better.”
