NORMAN – The No. 11 Oklahoma men's golf team finished the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational in fourth place. The three-day, 54-hole tournament took place at the historic par-70, 7,209-yard Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Sooners shot a 291 (+11) for the second-consecutive round, bringing their total to 855 (+15).
“It was a tough day at Colonial with the wind blowing around,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “We had a really nice round going but gave up quite a bit coming in, so that was disappointing. We need to keep striving to get better, and we will.”
With a three-round 839 (-1), No. 9 Vanderbilt won the tournament against a competitive 15-team field that featured 10 teams ranked in the top 20 of the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll. No. 8 Florida was the runner-up, one stroke behind the Commodores. No. 12 Georgia finished third with an 851 (+11), and Oregon placed fifth at 859 (+19).
Sophomore Blaine Hale was OU's best finisher, earning a tie for eighth place with an overall 211 (+1). The Dallas, Texas, native fired a 71 (+1) in the final round, pocketing four birdies. This placing marks his second-straight top-10 finish and the third of his career.
“Blaine finished nicely, and I am proud of him as he continues to get better,” Hybl said.
Junior Grant Hirschman claimed a share of 14th place after totaling a 213 (+3) for the tournament. He carded a 72 (+2) in Tuesday's round to earn the 11th top-20 finish of his career and second of the season.
Brad Dalke finished in a tie for 21st place. The sophomore posted a 74 (+4) in the third round to total a 214 (+4).
Also tallying a 74 (+4) in the final round was redshirt freshman Quade Cummins. Cummins' overall 219 (+9) earned him a piece of 35th place.
Rounding out the OU lineup was senior Max McGreevy, who shot a 76 (+6) Tuesday. McGreevy tied for 60th place with a total 227 (+17).
The Sooners return to action Oct. 21-23 (Friday-Sunday) when they compete in the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in Atlanta, Ga.
