McGreevy Earns Title, OU Finishes Sixth

NORMAN – Led by senior Max McGreevy's co-medalist honors, the No. 8 Oklahoma men's golf team took sixth place in the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was held at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga., and the final round took place on the par-72, 7,017-yard Lakeside Course.
The Sooners shot a 285 (-3) on Sunday, making their total score for the tournament 859 (-5), just three strokes out of first place.
"We played a pretty solid round today, but it just wasn't good enough," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "We finished sixth in the best event of the fall, but we only lost by three shots, and I am proud of our work this week. We need to continue to learn and grow as we move forward."
No. 7 Virginia and No. 28 Texas shared team title honors with an overall 856 (-8). No. 13 Stanford and No. 19 USC tied for third at 857 (-7), and No. 21 Texas A&M finished fifth with an 858 (-6).
Entering the day two strokes behind individual leader Jimmy Stanger of Virginia, McGreevy fired a 70 (-2) in the final round, his third consecutive round under par. With an overall 207 (-9), McGreevy tied with Stanger for first individually, marking the Sooner's second career tournament win.
"Max had an awesome week winning the biggest tournament of his career," Hybl said.
Sophomores Brad Dalke and Blaine Hale finished the tournament with a share of 24th place. They shot a 72 (E) and a 74 (+2), respectively, on Sunday to total 217 (+1) for the weekend.
Grant Hirschman tied for 33rd with an overall 219 (+3). The junior showed improvement in the final round, recording a 70 (-2) and pocketing four birdies.
Rounding out the OU lineup was junior Rylee Reinertson, who finished with an overall 228 (+12) and a piece of 71st place. He tallied his best round of the weekend on Sunday with a 73 (+1).
Up next for the Sooners is the conclusion of their fall season, Nov. 4-6 (Friday-Sunday) at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic.
