Sooners Set for Nike Collegiate Invitational

October 01, 2016 | Men's Golf

NORMAN – The No. 11 Oklahoma men's golf team travels to Fort Worth, Texas, this week for the third annual Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will take place Oct. 2-4 (Sunday-Tuesday) at the par-70, 7,209-yard Colonial Country Club.

The event features a highly competitive field with 10 of the 15 teams ranked in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll.

“It's a great field on a big-time PGA Tour golf course, and our guys are excited about this event,” eighth-year OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “It's a huge opportunity for us.”

The Sooners are coming off their first victory of the season at the Gopher Invitational in Independence, Minn. Junior Grant Hirschman claimed the individual title, his first career tournament win, and sophomore Blaine Hale tied for fifth, his best career finish.

“Coming off the Minnesota win, we've had a little bit of time to practice and work on some different things, so I think our guys are going to be ready to go,” Hybl said. “Getting off to a good start is going to be a key for us down there, and I think we should feel pretty good on the golf course.”

OU's lineup for the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational will include senior Max McGreevy, Hirschman, Hale, sophomore Brad Dalke and redshirt freshman Quade Cummins.
