NORMAN—The No. 18 Oklahoma men's golf team holds fifth place after its opening round at the Carmel Cup with a 364 (+4). The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at the iconic 6,828-yard, par-72 Pebble Beach Golf Links.

The eight-team tournament, hosted by Vanderbilt, showcases four squads ranked in the top 20 of the Busnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll. Each team is competing with six golfers, and the low five scores count toward the team total each round.

At the end of the round, No. 11 Vanderbilt and Arkansas lead the tournament with tied scores of 357 (-3), seven strokes ahead of the Sooners. No. 12 Georgia and No. 16 Oklahoma State share third place with 1-over-par scores, Ohio State comes in sixth at 372 (+12) and Texas Tech and TCU share seventh place with a 377 (+17).

Freshman Brad Dalke concluded his first collegiate round with a 1-under-par 71, tying for fifth place, two strokes off the individual leader. Dalke opened the round with a birdie and went on to pocket a total of four for the round.

Sophomore Rylee Reinertson began the round 2 under but went 2 over in the back nine holes to finish at an even-par 72, tying for 12th place.

Returning to Pebble Beach for their second Carmel Cup, senior Luke Kwon and sophomore Grant Hirschman both finished the round at 1 over par and tied for 18th place.

Junior Max McGreevy, also a Carmel Cup returner, recorded a 3-over-par 75, ending in a tie for 33rd place. McGreevy recovered from a fifth-hole quadruple-bogey to finish at par in the front nine and collected four birdies overall. Freshman Aaron Terrazas sits at 36th place with a 4-over-par 76.

"The beginning of a new year started today and overall, it wasn't a bad start," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "We obviously could have been way better, especially coming down the stretch, but we are in a good spot heading into tomorrow. We just have to clean up some mistakes and take advantage of the easier holes a little better."
