Gardiner led the Sooner attack in kills for the second consecutive night; bringing her tournament-total to 25. She also added six digs, four block assists and three assists.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team registered a 3-1 win over Denver at the Borderland Invitational on Friday evening. The Sooners, who have won three matches in a row, evened their record at 4-4, while the Pioneers moved to 7-2.

For the second straight match, Oklahoma claimed first- and second-set wins; 25-20 and 25-21. Denver fought back to claim and back-and-forth third with a 25-23 decision. The fourth went long with the Sooner ultimately finishing off the match by a score of 27-25.

The Pioneers led late in the fourth, 20-19, before a 3-0 run, including two kills from junior middle blocker Micaela Spann (Carrollton, Texas), put OU in front, 23-21. Tied at 25-25, the Sooners put away the match with a kill from sophomore middle blocker Marion Hazelwood (Beach City, Texas) and an ace from freshman setter Audrey Alford (Norman, Okla.).

Junior outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner (Grapevine, Texas) led an Oklahoma side that hit just .205 as a team with 11 kills to go along with six digs and four blocks. Freshman outside hitter Alyssa Enneking (League City, Texas) joined Gardiner in double digits with 10 to go with six digs.

Denver's Moni Corrujedo tied Gardiner for the match-lead in kills with 11. Sarah Schmid added nine kills and hit .438 for the match as the Pioneers hit a collective .146.

Senior setter Julia Doyle (Plymouth, Minn.) paced the Sooners with 17 assists and seven digs, while Alford added nine assists. Defensively, senior libero Taylor Migliazzo (Kansas City, Mo.) notched 13 digs and Hazelwood posted six blocks to go with seven kills.

The Sooners head to El Paso, Texas to wrap up the weekend's competition with a 12:00 pm match against UTEP.
