Dalke Wins Junior PGA Championship

NORMAN — Incoming Oklahoma men's golf freshman Brad Dalke claimed the Junior PGA Championship on Thursday with a four-round 278 (-6). The tournament was played at the par-71 Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas.

Dalke was forced to go to a playoff after finishing the 18th hole tied at 6 under par. Both players parred the first playoff hole, but Dalke secured the win after recording a birdie in the second playoff, finishing one stroke ahead of the second-place competitor. The victory ensures Dalke an exemption into the PGA Tour's Valero Texas Open next April.

The Hobart, Okla., native established an early six-shot lead after firing a 62 (-9) in the second round of the event, setting the Junior PGA Championship single-round standard and also breaking the Miramont Country Club course record, both previously set at 63. Dalke recorded nine birdies in the bogey-free second round, including a six-under front nine.

In total, Dalke pocketed 19 birdies and posted round scores of 68 (-3), 62 (-9), 73 (+2) and 75 (+4) en route to the title. The Junior PGA Championship marked the last junior tournament of Dalke's career as he will join the Sooners later this month for the 2015-16 season.

"This is a great way for Brad to finish off his junior golf career," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "He has been struggling a bit the past year, and I am excited that he is starting to see more on the course than what he used to. Now it is time for him to get to Norman and get his college career going."
