Hirschman Wins Second Southeastern Amateur

NORMAN — Oklahoma men's golf sophomore Grant Hirschman claimed his second straight Southeastern Amateur, one of the nation's top amateur events, on Saturday, while senior Beau Titsworth tied for third place. The 72-hole tournament was played June 17-20 at the par-71 Country Club of Columbus in Columbus, Ga.

Hirschman tallied a four-round 269 (-15) to win the 86th annual event by three strokes. The Collierville, Tenn., native posted scores of 71 (E), 62 (-9), 63 (-8) and 73 (+2) for the tournament. His second-round 62 tied the course record, and he pocketed 24 total birdies for the four rounds.

Titsworth shot a 68 (-3), 69 (-2), 69 (-2) and 68 (-3) for a total of 274 (-10) en route to the tie for third place. The Avon Lake, Ohio, native tallied 18 birdies and an eagle at the event.

"It is always great to have our guys play great over the summer and keep improving as big-time golfers," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "Defending is hard to do in our sport, and Grant just dominated and I am excited for him. Beau has played nice the last two weeks, and that is great to see, too."

The Southeastern Amateur is a top-level amateur golf tournament with a rich history dating back to 1922, when the tournament was started by Fred Haskins. Each year, the Southeastern Amateur hosts many of the nations top amateur golfers, including Division I NCAA National Champions and the nation's top Mid-Amateurs.

The Southeastern Amateur typically takes place the same week as U.S. Open. Historically, this has been the second week of the "summer swing," where the collegiate players travel around the country honing their skills for their next year of NCAA competition.

OU junior Max McGreevy also competed at the Sunnehanna Amateur in Johnstown, Pa., this week. He tied for 15th with a 5-under-par 275 after shooting a 64 (-6) on Saturday.
