NORMAN — The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee selected the University of Oklahoma men's golf team on Monday morning as the No. 3 seed in the NCAA San Diego Regional. The tournament will be played May 14-16 at The Farms Golf Club in San Diego, Calif.

The Sooners, ranked No. 14 nationally by Golfstat, will make their fifth straight regional appearance under sixth-year OU head coach Ryan Hybl and 43rd postseason appearance in school history.

The 13-team, 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of San Diego, is one of six NCAA Regionals. It will feature 18 holes a day and serve as a preliminary event for the NCAA Championships finals. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals, slated for May 29-June 3 at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.

"The San Diego Regional looks like a strong field, and we are going to have to play great to get the job done," Hybl said. "We travel all over the country all year long, and one of the reasons why is to have our guys comfortable in every part of the country and on different grasses. This will be a great test for us, and I know our guys will be excited to go to California."

NCAA regionals will also be held in Bremerton, Wash.; New Haven, Conn.; Lubbock, Texas; Noblesville, Ind.; and Chapel Hill, N.C. A total of 81 teams and 45 individuals were chosen for regionals.

Other Big 12 teams who qualified for a regional are Texas (No. 1 seed, Lubbock), Texas Tech (No. 2 seed, Lubbock), Baylor (No. 4 seed, Bremerton), Oklahoma State (No. 4 seed, New Haven), TCU (No. 6 seed, Bremerton) and Iowa State (No. 7 seed, Bremerton).

Last season, the Sooners advanced to the NCAA Championships finals for the fourth straight year and the 35th time overall by finishing third in the Eugene Regional in Eugene, Ore. At the national tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., OU tied for 16th place.
