No. 6/5 Oklahoma welcomes in Iowa State for its Big 12 home opener at Marita Hynes Field. The Sooners are 14-5 all-time in Big 12 home openers, including three straight wins. This is the fifth time that OU has opened league play at home against Iowa State, also doing so in 2009, 2005, 2000 and 1996. OU won all four of those games.

SERIES HISTORY
Oklahoma and Iowa State have met 96 times entering this weekend, with the Sooners owning a 68-28 advantage in the series, including an 22-12 mark in Norman. The 68 wins are the second most for OU against another school in program history.

OU has won the last 21 meetings in the series and 22 of the last 23. In fact, OU has won the past six meetings via run-rule, outscoring ISU, 79-3, in those games. The 21-game win streak is its third-longest active streak against a D-I opponent:

The Sooners, who have not given up more than two runs in any of the last 15 games to the Cyclones, swept a three-game series in Ames last year by a margin of 35-2 in just 15 innings.

In a 10-0 win in the opener, junior Kady Self finished 3-3 with a pair of home runs, three runs scored and five runs batted in. Self went 3-3 with a homer again in a 14-2 win, while junior Whitney Ellis was 4-4 with three RBI and two runs scored and sophomore Macey Hatfield was 3-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. A 10-run fourth inning in the finale gave the Sooners an 11-0 win as Hatfield was 2-3 with three RBI and a homer and senior Georgia Casey drove in four runs.

CHAMBERLAIN, PENDLEY GO 1-2 IN NPF DRAFT
Lauren Chamberlain and Shelby Pendley made history on April 1 as they became the first teammates in the history of the National Pro Fastpitch draft to be taken with the first two picks.
Oklahoma has now had 20 players drafted to the NPF league.

The USSSA Pride selected Chamberlain with the No. 1 overall pick, making her the first player in Oklahoma history to be taken first in the draft. Previously, DJ Mathis was the highest Sooner chosen when the Akron Racers took her second overall in 2009. The Pride wasn't done yet, though, with Oklahoma as they chose Pendley with the second pick.

A CLASS OF THEIR OWN
The 2015 campaign marks the final seasons for Oklahoma seniors Georgia Casey, Lauren Chamberlain, Callie Parsons, Shelby Pendley and Jessica Vest. Since stepping on campus three years ago (Pendley transferred to OU in 2013), no team has a better win percentage than the OU seniors and only Florida, which has played eight more games, has more wins.

CHAMBERLAIN, PENDLEY DUBBED 'RUTH AND GEHRIG'
In a Feb. 2 article on ESPNW.com, writer Graham Hays referred to OU's Lauren Chamberlain and Shelby Pendley as the Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig of college softball.

“In Chamberlain and Pendley, Oklahoma has the closest combination college softball might see to Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig,” Hays wrote. “One is the face and voice of a sport, the other the quiet embodiment of excellence. Good luck stopping them.”

Chamberlain and Pendley rank first and second nationally among active players in career home runs (through 3/31).

IN THE POLLS
Oklahoma is ranked sixth in the NFCA for the sixth straight week and moved up one spot to No. 5 in the USA Softball poll. OU has been ranked sixth or better in each of the polls for the last 10 weeks. The Sooners also climbed two spots in the RPI to No. 21.

Oklahoma is the only program to be ranked every week of the NFCA poll. The Sooners entered the rankings at No. 18 in the first poll on January 24, 1995. They have not dropped out since -- 298 straight polls. Likewise, the Sooners have been ranked every week of the USA Softball poll, dating back to the 2003 season when they opened at No. 11.

SOONERS PICKED TO WIN BIG 12 AGAIN
For the third season in a row, and the sixth time in the last seven years, Oklahoma has topped the Big 12 Coaches' Preseason Poll. The Sooners received six of the seven first-place votes. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.

The Sooners led their fellow Big 12 teams with 36 points, while Baylor received the seventh first-place vote and ranked second with 30 points. Texas was slotted third by the coaches with 27 points, followed by Oklahoma State (19), Kansas (17) and a tie between Texas Tech and Iowa State with nine points each.
