Rowing Completes Day One at Clemson

NORMAN – The OU rowing program opened up the Clemson Invite with a full schedule of races, as five Sooner crews combined to compete in 10 races over the course of a morning and afternoon session.

In the a.m. session, Oklahoma recorded a third place finish and three fourth place finishes in its heats. The Sooners third varsity eight boat claimed third with a mark of 7:18.5 to defeat two ACC crews in Clemson and Duke.

The first varsity eight, first varsity four and second varsity four all notched fourth place finishes in their respective morning heats. The first varsity eight started the day off with a 6:51.4, while the first varsity four notched an 8:00.1 and the second varsity four crossed the line in 7:51.9.

After a break for the remainder of the morning and the beginning of the afternoon, the crews got back on the water for session two.

The Crimson and Cream added three more top-four finishes in its heats during the afternoon. The second varsity four boat recorded the best finish of the session, claiming third in its heat with a 7:37.5, defeating crews from Clemson, Indiana and Duke.

The varsity four posted its second fourth place finish in its heat of the day, recording a mark of 7:37.8. The other top-four finish was turned in by the varsity eight, which closed out day one of the Clemson Invite for the Sooners with a time of 6:41.7 to earn fourth place.

Oklahoma will be back on the river for five more races on Sunday for the third and final session of the weekend. The Sooners first race is scheduled for 6:37 a.m. CT.
