NORMAN — The No. 23 Oklahoma men's golf team travels to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters, a prestigious tournament that features some of the nation's top teams. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played March 9-11 (Monday-Wednesday) at the 7,510-yard, par-72 Southern Highlands Golf Club.

All 15 teams in the field are ranked within the top 50 of the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll, including 10 of the top 25 squads. At the tournament, the Sooners will see four Big 12 opponents in Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and TCU.

"Southern Highlands is a true test of golf, and this is the best tournament of the year without a doubt," sixth-year OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "We are excited to be going out, and I am looking forward to seeing how our guys react this week. I feel like we are getting better as a group and this will be a perfect platform for us to show where we are as a team."

The Sooners are coming off a tie for third place at the competitive Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, P.R., after recording a 1-over-par 865. Freshman Grant Hirschman claimed a share of seventh place with a 212 (-4), and senior Michael Gellerman tied for 19th at 1 over par.

OU's lineup will include Gellerman, senior Charlie Saxon, junior Luke Kwon, sophomore Max McGreevy and Hirschman.

Grant Hirschman, Freshman: Finished in career-best sixth place at Royals Oaks Intercollegiate with a 1-under 212 … Tied for seventh at Puerto Rico Classic with a 212 (-4) … Took a share of 15th place at Carmel Cup, his first collegiate event, with a 216 (E) … Claimed the 2014 Southeastern Amateur, one of the nation's top amateur events.

Max McGreevy, Sophomore: Matched his career best with a tie for fourth place at Royal Oaks Intercollegiate … Also tied for fourth place at season-opening Carmel Cup with a 5-under 211 … Earned Big 12 Men's Golfer of the Month Honors for September 2013 after being highest finisher for Sooners in first two tournaments.

4. Charlie Saxon, Senior: Made his season debut at UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational (tied for 45th) after missing the fall with an injury … Claimed a share of 30th place at Puerto Rico Classic … Tied for fourth place, his best in a team event, with a 206 (-4) at 2014 Wyoming Cowboy Classic … Won 2013 Lions Classic as an individual with a two-round 141 (+1).

5. Luke Kwon, Junior: Tied for 22nd at Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational, a career best in OU team events … Opened spring season by tying for 29th at UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational … Played his first season at St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas … Was named a 2011 Division II honorable mention PING All-American.

THE COURSE
The 7,510-yard, par-72 Southern Highlands Golf Club serves as the track for the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters.

FORMAT
Fifty-four holes will be played over three days, with each round scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CT from holes No. 1 and 10.
