NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma rowing team is set to open the spring season with a scrimmage against Kansas State on Saturday, March 7 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Exchange Boat House in Oklahoma City, Okla.
“We are looking forward to hosting Kansas State this weekend," head coach Leeanne Crain said. "The scrimmage format will give our athletes a greater number of opportunities to go head to head against a really good team.
"I know the team is anxious to see how the indoor training will pay off on the water. And, it will be nice to get some race experience before heading to the Oak Ridge Invitational the following weekend.”
The scrimmage will start at 8 a.m. with two races going simultaneously. On the west end of the river the Varsity Eight race with OU and KSU's top two boats will begin and on the east end of the river the Varsity Four competition will also start at 8 a.m., which will feature Oklahoma's top-three varsity four boats and Kansas State's top varsity four boat.
At 10 a.m. the third race of the day will begin, as OU's novice eight boats will take on Kansas State's varsity three and varsity four crews.
The two sides will then take a break for lunch and resume at 2 p.m. for afternoon competition with a head-to-head matchup of the two programs' first varsity eight squads followed by a second varsity eight showdown at 2:20 p.m.
