LUBBOCK, Texas – Freshman Paige Parker struck out a career-high 13 batters as No. 6/6 Oklahoma (26-5, 1-0 Big 12) opened Big 12 play with a 9-1 win Friday night at Texas Tech (16-18, 0-1 Big 12).

The Sooners are now winners of 15 of their 20 Big 12 openers all-time. OU picked up their eighth straight win in the series and have outscored the Red Raiders, 64-10, in that span. The Sooners are 44-7 (.863) all-time against Texas Tech, its best winning percentage against a Big 12 opponent.

Parker was the star Friday, recording the most strikeouts by an OU pitcher since Keilani Ricketts struck out 13 in game one of the WCWS Championship Series against Tennessee on June 3, 2013. Parker allowed five hits and just one unearned run. It was the seventh time in 15 starts this year that she did not walk a batter.

On her way to improving to 12-3 on the year, Parker had three 1-2-3 innings and, at one point, retired 10 straight batters from the second to the fifth innings. Of those 10 outs, seven were strikeouts, including striking out the side in the fourth.

Four different OU batters had at least two hits, including freshman Kelsey Arnold who had a career-high three hits and three runs batted in.

After missing three games with a wrist injury, junior Erin Miller made her presence known as she staked the Sooners to an early lead.

With one out and senior Shelby Pendley on first, Parker doubled over the right fielder's head to put two into scoring position. Miller came up next and went right back up the middle with an RBI single to give OU a 1-0 lead.

OU doubled its lead in the second.

Junior Whitney Ellis started things with her team-leading ninth double of the season. Two batters later, Arnold batted from the right side for the first time this season and singled up the middle off the glove of a diving Brooke Scott at shortstop. The deflection into shallow center allowed Ellis to score the Sooners' second run.

The Red Raiders cut into the lead in the bottom of the frame with some small-ball.

Kristi Belshe led off with a bunt single and moved to second on a passed ball. After a sacrifice bunt moved her to third, Brittany Warnecke executed a squeeze bunt to plate Belshe.

Oklahoma got that run back in the third inning.

Parker drew a one-out walk before being pinch-run for by senior Jessica Vest. After a stolen base by Vest, Miller picked up her second hit of the game with a single to left field. The ground ball got under the glove of Susan Welborn, however, and ran all the way to the wall to let Vest score from second and give OU the 3-1 lead.

OU doubled its run total in the fourth behind a three-run homer from Pendley.

Arnold reached on a one-out bunt and moved up to second two batters later when Chamberlain drew her second walk. Pendley then uncorked a three-run blast to right center to put the Sooners up 6-1. It was her 12th home run of the season, her 53rd at Oklahoma and her 72nd all-time. With 72 home runs, she moved into a tie for 11th on the all-time list with Hawaii's Kelly Majam (2010-13).

Oklahoma added to its lead with three more runs in the seventh.

Parker collected her second hit with a single to left field. Miller walked and freshman Lea Wodach loaded the bases thanks to reaching safely on an error. Ellis collected an RBI when she singled to left field, making it 7-1. After a popup, Arnold singled back up the middle to score two runs.

OU and Texas Tech resume the series Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
