NORMAN — After two rounds at the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, the No. 16 Oklahoma men's golf team sits in sixth place with a 17-over-par 585. The 54-hole, two-day event is being played at the 6,765-yard, par-71 Oak Hills Country Club.

For the first 18 holes, the Sooners tallied a 295 (+11) before adding a 6-over 290 in the afternoon round to close the day just one stroke out of fifth place.

"Today wasn't the day we were looking for as a team," sixth-year OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "We looked out of sorts all day long and it has to get better tomorrow. Luckily, we have 18 more holes to make up some ground."

Tenth-ranked Baylor paces the 15-team field with a 572 (+4), while host school UTSA holds second with a 9-over 577. Sam Houston State and Houston Baptist are tied for third at 14 over par, and Wichita State rounds out the top five with a 584 (+16). Houston Baptist's Preston Stanley, Baylor's Kyle Jones and Sam Houston State's Logan Boatner are tied for the individual lead at 4 under par.

Leading the Sooners were senior Michael Gellerman and sophomore Max McGreevy, who share 14th place with scores of 144 (+2). Gellerman opened the tournament with a 2-over 73, followed by a second-round 71 (E).

After shooting a 4-over-par 75 in the first round, McGreevy responded with a team-low 69 (-2) to close the day. McGreevy pocketed five birdies in the second round, including three consecutive on holes No. 7, 8 and 9.

With a 3-over 145, Grant Hirschman is tied for 19th place. Hirschman tallied scores of 71 (E) and 74 (+3) in the first and second rounds, respectively.

Senior Charlie Saxon, who is making his season debut following an injury that kept him out of competition in the fall, shot a pair of 5-over 76s to tie for 55th at 10 over par. Junior Beau Titsworth shares 71st with a 156 (+14) after shooting a 77 (+6) and 79 (+8).

Playing as an individual, junior Luke Kwon fired a 1-over 143 to tie for ninth place. Kwon recorded rounds of 70 (-1) and 73 (+2) on the day.
