Return to Recap

Oklahoma Hoach Sherri Coale

On why it was so hard to get anything going:
“You know, I thought early we passed up a lot of easy shots. We had a look at a layup and we would turn a really easy layup into a really difficult shot or we would kick it out for a three. I thought those kind of things stymied us a bit. Then, we weren't making perimeter shots and we got a little bit tight. We just never had any sync. We never had any rhythm.”

On not being able to get a spark despite using much of their bench:
“We could never find anybody who could really get us going. I think everybody was looking over their shoulder waiting for Stu (Peyton Little) to do it but she didn't do it tonight. It's not her job to do it all of the time. It's everybody's job to do it and be ready to go. I thought, defensively, it was the greater problem. We just did not defend according to the game plan, which has been such a point of growth for our team and something we did so well on Wednesday. We just didn't do it tonight. Then we gave up so many second shots. In the second half, we got a little bit of momentum going and got them stopped two or three times in a row. There was one possession where I know they came up with four offensive boards and eventually scored. That's going to happen and that was really hard to recover from especially when you aren't shooting well. We went 1-12 from three. I can't remember the last time we only made one three-point basket.”

On if Kansas being last in the standings speaks to the depth of the league:
“There's no doubt. I said in pregame that they are the best 10th place team that the Big 12 Conference has ever seen. They're senior laden. They're tough to guard. They're well coached. They play really hard. I think Bonnie has done a great job of keeping them focused ad energetic. They were really passionate about the game tonight. That's hard sometimes when you're in last place and she deserves a lot of credit for that.”

On if there was something lackadaisical going into this game:
“I think there is just a lot riding on this game for a young team. Again, these are not excuses by any stretch of the imagination, but explanations. With a young team, senior night for girls is always hard. Most of these guys have never gone through a senior night. Then you have the crazy weather and you have the earlier tip which messed with our shoot around time. You have to be able to handle all of that. Things are going to happen. We played a game at 10:30 this year. We played a game at 11 o'clock at night. Stuff happens. I think everything coupled with the high that we were on after the Baylor game…we didn't handle this opportunity the way that we should have. I share that responsibility. It goes back to me. I have got to do a better job of getting them to move on.”

On if the ability to bounce back from tough losses makes her feel better about the quick Bedlam turnaround:
“You would rather go into a Bedlam game with a win. No doubt. Our guys have been pretty good at having a short memory after losses. Maybe we are not quite as good at having a short memory after big wins. That's what we learned this week.”

Oklahoma Senior Guard Sharane Campbell-Olds

On losing confidence in the 3-point shot:
“I wouldn't say we lost confidence in our 3. It just comes to a point that if you miss five in a row, you need to get the ball to the paint and score from the inside and then work your way out. So I don't think we lost confidence. I think we just tried to get started and we would have rolled off of that if we would have started making those inside shots.”

On what wasn't working to get the momentum going:
“I feel like just because we weren't making our shots, we got a little rattled and when we went to the defensive end, we weren't getting rebounds. So if you put those two together, that's how they get a lead and that's how we got our backs against the wall. We had to try and dig ourselves out of a hole.”

On a quick turnaround to the Bedlam matchup:
“We just have to get in film and learn from it. Just make sure that we take care of our bodies, getting iced up if we need to. We just need to learn from this mistake and move on. You can't dwell on a loss if you have a good opponent coming up. OSU, they're a good team, so we need to make sure that we are ready.”

RS Junior Kaylon Williams

On if they were not focused tonight because it was senior night:
“I mean, this is a big night for not just our seniors, but for all of us. You always want to send your seniors out in a great way and we just kind of let this one slip out of our hands this time. Like Sharane (Campbell-Olds) mentioned earlier, we do have a lot of the season left so we can't really dwell on this too long. We have to go get in film sessions and kind of learn from it and go see how we can move forward, make corrections and get better.”
