NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma women's basketball team's comeback effort fell short against Kansas as it dropped a 65-58 contest on Saturday night inside the Lloyd Noble Center in its final home game of the season.
The Sooners moved to 18-10 overall, including 12-1 at home, and 12-5 in Big 12 competition, while the Jayhawks improved to 14-16 on the season and 5-12 in conference games.
Junior Kaylon Williams led the Sooners with 20 points on 8-for-14 shooting. She also secured nine rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive end.
Following the contest, OU honored its two seniors, Sharane Campbell-Olds and Whitney Ritchie. Campbell-Olds posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Spencer, Okla., native also contributed three steals, an assist and a block.
Ritchie, who spent her first four years at OU on the women's tennis team, started the contest and played a total of two minutes.
For the game, the Sooners struggled from the field as they shot 19-for-59 (32.2 percent) and made just one of their 3-point attempts. OU went 19-for-26 from the free throw line (73.1 percent).
After trailing by as many as 12 in the second half, the Sooners cut the lead to two with just over three minutes remaining. Kansas then stretched the lead to five before a pair of free throws from Campbell-Olds got OU within three, the closest it would be for the rest of the game.
The Sooners return to the court at 7 p.m. CT on Monday, March 2, as they travel to Stillwater, Okla. to take on Oklahoma State. The game will be televised on FOX Sports Southwest.
