Oklahoma Routs Arkansas on Senior Night

February 26, 2026 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Aaliyah Chavez scored 16 points and No. 7 Oklahoma rolled to an 89-44 win over Arkansas on Thursday night.

Payton Verhulst and Raegan Beers played key roles for the Sooners in their final regular-season home games. Verhulst had 14 points and five assists and Beers had 11 points and 12 rebounds. They potentially will play at home at least one more time — Oklahoma has a good chance to be a host in the NCAA Tournament as one of the top 16 overall seeds.

Freshman Brooklyn Stewart notched her first career double-double with 11 points and a season-high 15 rebounds for the Sooners (22-6, 10-5 Southeastern Conference), who won their fifth straight.

No one reached double figures for Arkansas (11-19, 0-15), which lost its 16th consecutive game. Taleyah Jones, Arkansas' leader with 17.2 points per game heading into the night, finished with five points. Oklahoma held the Razorbacks to 22.4% shooting,

Oklahoma won big despite making just 3 of 22 3-pointers. Arkansas wasn't much better, connecting on 5 of 29 from deep.

Oklahoma led 27-15 in the second quarter before breaking the game open with a 10-0 run. The Sooners held the Razorbacks to 29% shooting in the first half and led 44-22 at the break. Oklahoma outscored Arkansas 12-0 from the free-throw line in the first half.

Chavez scored 10 points and Stewart had seven points and 11 rebounds in the first half. Stewart matched Arkansas' rebound total in the first 20 minutes and helped the Sooners snag 32 boards.

Oklahoma shot 50% from the field in the third quarter and extended its lead to 65-36 heading into the fourth. The Sooners scored the first 16 points of the fourth quarter as Arkansas didn't score until 4:28 remained.

POSTGAME NOTES

• No. 11 Oklahoma (21-6, 9-5 SEC) won its fifth straight game Thursday night, defeating Arkansas 89-44 at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman. Following the game, the Sooners honored seniors Raegan Beers, Beatrice Culliton and Payton Verhulst.

• With the win, Oklahoma clinched a top-eight seed at next week's SEC Tournament in Greenville, S.C., and a win on Sunday will give OU the No. 5 seed. The Sooners have now recorded double-digit conference wins in all five seasons under Jennie Baranczyk. OU is locked into a Thursday tip time as it cannot earn a seed higher than No. 5 in Greenville after LSU defeated Tennessee on Thursday.

• The 45-point margin is Oklahoma's second-largest in an SEC game, trailing only a 48-point win over Mississippi State earlier this season. It also stands as the third-largest conference victory for the Sooners since 2009. Arkansas' 44 points are the fifth-fewest allowed by OU in a conference game in that span, and Oklahoma has now won 71 straight games when holding opponents under 60 points.

• The senior trio of Beers, Culliton and Verhulst has combined to play more than 275 games in an Oklahoma uniform and helped lead the Sooners to the NCAA Tournament in each of their seasons with the program. All three players scored in the win, with Culliton making a pair of free throws in the fourth quarter.

• Oklahoma controlled the game from the start, opening on a 7-0 run and leading 23-12 after the first quarter. An 18-5 run early in the second pushed the advantage to 26 points, and OU led by 22 at halftime. The Sooners stretched the lead to as many as 48 in the fourth while outscoring Arkansas 45-22 in the second half and holding the Razorbacks without a made field goal in the final quarter.

• All five Oklahoma starters scored in double figures for the second straight game. The group is the second-highest scoring starting five in the country, and OU improved to 7-0 this season when all five reach double digits.

• True freshman Aaliyah Chavez led the Sooners with 16 points, adding four assists and two steals. She went 2 for 2 at the line to extend her streak to 49 consecutive made free throws, a new SEC record. Chavez also surpassed 500 points, becoming the fifth freshman in OU history to reach the mark and the first since Aaryn Ellenberg in 2011.

Raegan Beers recorded her 64th career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Her first basket pushed her past 1,000 points at Oklahoma (more than 1,950 in her career), making her the fifth Sooner to score 1,000 points in two seasons in Norman. She now has 19 double-doubles this season and is 38 points shy of 2,000 career points.

Brooklyn Stewart posted her first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, including eight offensive boards. The freshman added three blocks and finished +21 in 22 minutes.

Payton Verhulst (14 points, five assists), Zya Vann (13 points, five rebounds, three steals) and Sahara Williams (12 points, nine rebounds, three assists) also scored in double figures.

• Oklahoma shot 45.9% from the field and improved to 16-1 this season when shooting above 45%. Defensively, OU held Arkansas to 22.4% shooting (13-58), the third-lowest mark by a conference opponent since 2009. The Razorbacks did not make a field goal in the fourth quarter, becoming the second OU opponent in SEC play (Texas A&M) to not make a basket in a frame. Arkansas' 13 made field goals are the second fewest by an OU conference opponent over the last 15 years.

• The Sooners outscored Arkansas 50-12 in the paint and scored 24 points off UA's 18 turnovers. OU dished out 22 assists, while the Hogs only produced five. The Sooners' 50 paint points are tied for their second most in SEC action and OU improved to 21-4 when outscoring its opponent in the paint.

• Oklahoma closes the regular season on Sunday at Missouri. Tip is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
