Sooners Take Home Two Wins in Tennessee

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma rowing team completed its fall slate after Sunday's races at the Head of the Hooch. The regatta was held on a 5,000-meter course on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Sooners began the final day with four boats racing in the 21-team women's open pair contest. The Oklahoma “B” boat paced OU, finishing in third place with a time of 19:06.2. OU “D” came in fourth place (19:26.7) and OU “A” placed seventh at 19:35.3. Oklahoma “C” finished eighth, crossing the line in 19:54.7.
The OU “A” boat took the women's open eight crown, finishing .1 second ahead of second-place Clemson. Oklahoma “B” finished in fifth place, registering a time of 16:45.5.
On the weekend, all 12 OU boats finished in the top eight of their events, including two first-place finishes.
On Saturday, OU competed seven boats in three different races. The Sooners took second and fifth places in the women's championship eight, and the Oklahoma “A” lineup dominated the 26-team women's championship four, finishing 45 seconds ahead of second-place Miami “A”. The novice eight crossed the line in fifth place in their first regatta.
The Sooners return to the course March 12-13 in Oak Ridge, Tenn., for the Cardinal Invitational.
