NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's team wrapped up its 2015 fall tournament tour with the completion of the UNLV Rebel Women's Tennis Invitational Sunday.
Sophomore
Lily Miyazaki won her second tournament in a row, beating USC's No. 114-ranked Zoe Katz (6-2, 2-6, 7-6) in the No. 1 singles flight. Miyazaki beat Aiwen Zhu of UNLV (7-6, 6-4) in the quarterfinals Friday and earned a spot in Sunday's final due to a walkover in the semifinals.
In the No. 2 singles draw, redshirt junior
Mimi Fotopoulos lost to Saska Gavrilovska of Texas A&M, 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals Friday. Fotopoulos won her consolation semifinal match over TCU's Sofiko Kadzhaya, 7-5, 6-4, before falling in the consolation final to Ryann Foster of LSU, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8)
Sophomore Christie Brigante won the consolation side of the No. 3 singles draw, beating TCU's Alexis Pereira, 6-3, 6-4, in Sunday's match. Brigante lost her first match against LSU's Jessica Golovin 7-5, 6-4 to fall into the consolation bracket. She won her consolation semifinal match in straight sets, defeating Lucia Badillos of Idaho, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles play, Miyazaki/Fotopoulos finished the weekend 2-1, including a win in the consolation bracket championship match. After losing to USC's Zoe Katz and Jessica Failla, 8-3, Friday, the Sooners won its final two doubles matches of the weekend.
The pair topped Idaho's Belen Barcenilla and Rita Bermudez, 8-6, in the semifinals to advance. Miyazaki/Fotopoulos defeated TCU's Mia King and Alexis Pereira, 8-6, to finish their final doubles match of the fall season.
The Sooners start spring play Sunday, Jan. 17 against Wichita State in Norman.
