NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team was swept for the first time all season in a 3-0 loss to Kansas State at McCasland Field House on Friday night. The Sooners dropped their third straight match to fall to 7-11 overall and 1-5 in the Big 12. The Wildcats improved to 11-7 and 3-3.

K-State earned the sweep by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-19. The Wildcats held a narrow two-point advantage at 17-15 in the first before ending the set on an 8-1 run.

“We were extremely flat in the first set and we had some intensity and fire in our eyes in the second set, but it was a little too late,” assessed head coach Santiago Restrepo.

For the match, Oklahoma was outhit by Kansas State, .366-.135. Bryna Vogel led all players with a .625 attack rate as she and Brooke Sassin each tallied 11 kills. Junior middle blocker Micaela Spann (Carrollton, Texas) knocked down 10 kills for the Sooners on a .400 attack rate. Sophomore middle blocker Marion Hazelwood (Beach City, Texas) hit a team-high .538 with eight kills.

On the blocks, the Wildcats totaled 13 to Oklahoma's three. Katie Reininger posted seven to lead all players. K-State hit .300 or better in all three sets, while the Sooners hit under .150 in all three.

“I thought that our hitters were not very smart in their selection with their shots. [Kansas State] did a very good job with their blocking scheme. We finally fixed it a little in the second set, but we still made nine errors in that set.”

Senior setter Julia Doyle (Plymouth, Minn.) reached 4,000 career kills with her 23rd of the night coming on a kill from senior outside hitter Kierra Holst (Coppell, Texas). She is the fifth player in program history to reach the milestone and finished the night with 26.

Katie Brand dished out 35 assists for Kansas State with six digs, six blocks and three kills. Vogel tallied the lone double-double of the match as she went for a match-high 12 digs. Sophomore libero Rachel Manriquez (Edmond, Okla.) led OU with 10.

The Sooners return to action on Wednesday, October 21 at Kansas.
