OU Announces 2014-15 Rowing Schedule

NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma Head Rowing Coach Leeanne Crain and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione announced the Sooners' 2014-15 schedule on Tuesday. 

The back-to-back defending Big 12 and Conference USA champions, Oklahoma rowing enters its seventh season of competition coming off its second-straight NCAA Championship bid in 2014, earning a 19th place finish. 

The upcoming season is highlighted by the Sooners hosting three separate home events in Oklahoma City, one in the fall and two more in the spring portion of the schedule. 

Oklahoma kicks off the fall season in Oklahoma City at the Head of the Oklahoma, Oct. 4. Three weeks later, OU will compete at the Head of the Colorado in Austin, Texas, on Oct. 25.

“We're looking forward to opening the fall season next weekend at the Head of the Oklahoma,” said Crain. “There are some talented teams coming in from out of region which will make it a more competitive event.” 

The Sooners will round out the 2014 portion of the schedule with two events in November. First OU is scheduled to compete at the Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Nov. 1-2 before finishing the fall season at the Rivanna Romp on Nov. 16 in Charlottesville, Virginia.

After training at Winter Camp the first week in January in San Diego, Oklahoma will return home to host Kansas State on March 7 to gear up for the spring season. One week following the home event OU will head to Oak Ridge, Tenn. For the Cardinal Invitational, March 14-15. The Sooners conclude their busy month of March with the Pac 12 Challenge in Redwood City, Calif. held March 28-29.

In April, OU will first compete at the the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C., Apr. 18-19. The program wraps up the month in Kansas City, Kansas With the Big 12/Big Ten Double Dual, April 25-26.

The Sooners then will prepare for the championship portion of the schedule with a home tune-up against intrastate rival Tulsa in Oklahoma City, May 5.

“We've got a very competitive spring schedule that should set us up well in preparing for our conference championship,” said Crain. “We are hoping to raise the bar this year and racing these top teams should give us an idea of what to expect at the national championship in May.”

The postseason begins at the Big 12 Championship on May 16 at Lake Melton in Oak Ridge, Tennessee This year's Big 12 champion will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.

The NCAA Championship will be held at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, California where the Sooners will look to qualify for their third consecutive season for the three-day event held May 29-31.
