Rowing Wraps up Fall at Rivanna Romp
November 14, 2014 | Rowing
NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma rowing squad finishes the fall portion of the schedule in Earlysville, Virginia this weekend with the Rivanna Romp. The regatta is set to begin at 9 a.m. CT on Sunday, November 16.
“We'll face our toughest competition of the fall this weekend, as most of these teams were ranked in the Top 20 last season,” said head coach Leeanne Crain. “We have challenged the team more this year than any other and the athletes are starting to see the return on their investment.
“We're continuing to keep our focus on our spring season, but this weekend's racing will provide us some perspective on where we are competitively at this point in the season.”
Some of the notable crews that the Sooners will be competing against this weekend include Louisville, Duke, Clemson, Columbia, Penn, Old Dominion and the hosts Virginia.
The Sooners will enter two boats in the varsity eight race at 9 a.m. CT to start the competition. Oklahoma will then have four boats race in the varsity fours race, which is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.
OU is set to train through the winter before opening the spring season on March 7, as the Sooners host Kansas State at 8 a.m. in Oklahoma City.
