Rowing Delivers Strong Opening Performance

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma rowing team opened thee 2014-15 season on Saturday at the Head of the Oklahoma at the Boathouse District of Oklahoma City.
The Sooners started the day in the collegiate eight, with the Oklahoma A boat taking second out of 16 participants with a time of 13:59. The only team to finish ahead of OU was USC, recording a time of 13:31. The Oklahoma B boat turned in a solid performance in the same race, placing fifth with a time of 14:18.
Kansas State and Tulsa finished third and fourth respectively to fill out the top five in the collegiate eight.
In the women's collegiate four event, OU picked up two more top five finishes. The Oklahoma A boat took second with a time of 15:34, finishing five seconds behind USC for the second time of the afternoon.
The Oklahoma B boat rounded out the top five in a time of 16:17, just two seconds behind the fourth place Tulsa B boat.
The final event of the afternoon racing for the Sooners was the women's novice eight. OU's three novice teams finished fifth (17:21), seventh (18:25) and 13th (19:43) to end the traditional portion of the day for Oklahoma.
OU closed out the evening with the night sprints, racing under the lights for the second consecutive year at the Head of the Oklahoma. The Oklahoma A and B boats competed in the unconventional 500-meter race, taking second and third with times of 1:59 and 2:03, respectively.
OU will next compete at the Head of the Colorado on Saturday, Oct. 26, in Austin, Texas.
