NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma rowing team travels to Chattanooga, Tennessee this weekend to race in the Head of the Hooch on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 1-2.

The Head of the Hooch marks the second regatta the varsity will compete in this fall, after opening the season at the Head of the Oklahoma in early October. The OU novice squad has already competed in two races prior to this weekend's races, competing in the Head of the Oklahoma and last weekend's Head of the Colorado.

The women's championship eight race will kick off the OU portion of the schedule on Saturday, with the event slated to begin at 12:20 p.m. CT with the women's club and college novice eight starting later in the afternoon at 3:31 p.m. OU will wrap up Saturday with the women's four championship event at 5:05 p.m.

On Sunday, the final day of the two day competition, Oklahoma rowers are slated to compete in two events. OU will race the open two event at 12:01 p.m. and then close out the weekend with the open eight at 12:33 p.m.

The Head of the Hooch is one of the world's largest rowing regattas, with 2,000+ boats racing over two days.  More than 9,000 seats are rowed. 1,200 boats compete on Saturday alone, more in one day than any other regatta. Participants come from over 200 different organizations and in 2012 the regatta welcomed crews from 27 different states. The Head of the Hooch has seen a growth in entries from other countries.  The regatta has hosted teams from Canada, Germany, Sweden and Australia.
