OU Wins Fall Opener, 7-0

NORMAN, Okla. -- The defending national champion University of Oklahoma softball team opened the fall season with a 7-0 win  over Connors State on Friday at Marita Hynes Field.

Junior Georgia Casey earned the win, allowing one hit and one walk with three strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched. Casey was followed in the circle by sophomore Kelsey Stevens making her first appearance as a Sooner. Stevens also went 3.0 innings, striking out six with one walk and no hits allowed.

Sophomore Leslie Miller, who had two runs with a walk and a hit at the plate, closed out the game with a strikeout in 1.0 inning pitched.

Up 1-0, OU tacked on three addtional runs in the bottom of the third. A single up the middle by Miller with two on scored Shelby Pendley before a Javen Henson sacrifice bunt scored Paris Townsend. Callie Parsons rounded out the scoring with another single straight up the middle, bringing in Jessica Vest

Parsons and Destinee Martinez tied for the team lead with two hits apiece. Pendley scored a team-high three runs on two walks and one hit for the Sooners.

OU will next play St. Gregory's on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. CT at Marita Hynes Field.
