NORMAN, Okla. -- The 25th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team tied for fifth place at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, and after a playoff on the 18th hole with South Florida, OU will advance to its third straight and 34th overall NCAA Championships. The 54-hole regional was played at the 6,965-yard, par-72 Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla.

After the third round of play, the Sooners and South Florida were tied for the final advancing position, finishing the tournament with an 854 (-10). In order to determine which team would compete in the finals, the two teams re-played the 18th hole. OU recorded a combined score of 17, while South Florida registered a 20.

On the par-five playoff hole, OU's Abraham Ancer, Will Kropp and Beau Titsworth each carded a birdie score of 4, while Charlie Saxon scored a 5 and junior Michael Schoolcraft a 7. Schoolcraft's score was dropped.

“It was the most amazing experience for our guys today, maybe even better than winning a golf tournament,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “Every guy played a huge role this week, and we survived. It was an awesome week for us and for our program.”

The NCAA Championships are slated for May 28-June 2 at the Capital City Club Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga. Other advancing teams from the NCAA Tallahassee Regional are North Florida, Washington, Florida State and Georgia Tech. Daniel Walker of Richmond moves on as an individual.

In Saturday's final round, the Sooners, who competed as the No. 5 seed in the 13-team field, recorded a 289 (+1).

Ancer shot a 2-under-par 70 on the last 18 holes, bringing his three-round total to 209 (-7). He tied for 10th place, his fifth top-10 showing of his senior season.

With a three-round 212 (-4), Schoolcraft finished in a tie for 19th, his seventh time to finish within the top 20 this season. On Saturday, the junior posted a 2-over 74.

Saxon, a sophomore, tied for 29th place with a three-round 216 (E). He shot a 2-over-par 74 in the final round.

Freshman Titsworth carded an even-par round of 72 for the second straight day and posted a 2-over-par 218 for the tournament. Kropp finished the regional at 10 over par after shooting a 73 (+1) on Saturday.

Last year, the Sooners finished 11th at the national tournament in Pacific Palisades, Calif., the program's best showing since placing ninth in 1993. Kropp tied for ninth place en route to earning All-America honors.
