NORMAN, Okla. - For Riley Masters, there is just something about the track in Stanford and meets run on that track.
He proved that once again late Sunday night as the redshirt senior finished second in the invitational 1,500-meter race with a time of 3:38.79. In the process, he took over the top spot in the NCAA rankings for that event.
The time was his second sub-3:40.00 and was nearly two seconds faster than his previous season best.
The winner of the race, Chris O'Hare finished with a 3:38.48 and runs out of Scotland. The third place finisher, Henrik Ingebrigtsen, finished fifth in the 2012 Olympics.
With Masters' jump to the top spot, OU now has the top ranked and the third best times in the 1,500. Patrick Casey ranks third after posting a 3:40.77 at the Mt. Sac Relays a week ago.
Masters, Casey and their Sooner teammates will head to Waco, Texas, this weekend for the annual Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
