Oklahoma takes part in its final non-conference game of the regular season on Tuesday when it visits the North Texas Mean Green.
The two teams were supposed to meet on April 10 in Norman, but the game had to be rescheduled due to rain. The venue was switched to Denton to accomodate UNT player class schedules.
The Sooners have never lost to the Mean Green, holding a perfect 23-0 record. Sixteen of those wins have come in Norman, while OU has also won all seven matchups in Denton.
The teams have played each other at least twice in every season since 2004. Last year, OU won 4-1 at North Texas before taking a 9-4 decision in Norman.
Keilani Ricketts came an out away from a perfect game in the team's 4-1 win at North Texas in 2012 after walking two batters in the bottom of the seventh and then giving up a single. She also hit a two-run home run and finished the game 2-3 with three runs batted in.
In the matchup in Norman, Oklahoma withstood three UNT home runs to take the 9-4 win. Ricketts got the win in relief and was 2-2 at the plate with two runs scored, two RBI a walk and a home run.
UNANIMOUS NO. 1 AGAIN
For the third time this season, and the second week in a row, Oklahoma is the unanimous No. 1 team in the country.
The Sooners received all 31 first-place votes in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll and all 20 votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25. The Sooners were also the unanimous No. 1 on March 19 and April 9.
Oklahoma has been ranked No. 1 by USA Softball for 10 straight weeks, while the NFCA has put the Sooners on top for six weeks in a row. It's the sixth week in a row that OU has been ranked first in both polls.
The Sooners also maintained their spot as the No. 1 team in the fourth installment of NCAA Division I RPI rankings on April 15. They have been No. 1 each week since the rankings first came out.
OU TAKES CONTROL IN BIG 12 TITLE HUNT WITH WINS AT TEXAS
The Sooners took two of three games at No. 6/7 Texas and now control their own destiny in the quest for the Big 12 championship.
In a 6-1 win in game one, Keilani Ricketts struck out a season-high 15 batters while the 7-8-9 hitters were 7-9 with 4 RBI. After losing 4-2, the Sooners came back in game three to win 5-3. Shelby Pendley hit a pair of home runs, while Michelle Gascoigne came on in relief and got the final two outs with the bases loaded.
BOTTOM OF THE ORDER LEADS THE WAY OVER LONGHORNS
Oklahoma's trio of Destinee Martinez, Callie Parsons and Brianna Turang spent the majority of the weekend in the 7-8-9 spots in the lineup, but their production helped the Sooners win the series.
Martinez: 5-11 (.455), 1 R, 1 RBI
Parsons: 3-8 (.375), 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SH, 1 SB
Turang: 6-9 (.667), 4 RBI, 2B, 1 BB, 1 SB
TAKING ON THE TOP 25
Through April 21, the Sooners lead the nation in wins against top-25 teams (16) and winning percentage against top-25 teams (.842; min. 5 games), while they are tied for fourth in games played against ranked teams (19).
OU won its first eight games of the year against top-25 teams, tying for the school's longest winning streak in such games. The record was initially set March 14-May 12, 2000.
DOMINANT DUO
Oklahoma's 1-2 punch of Keilani Ricketts and Michelle Gascoigne has been dominant in 2013. While Ricketts is 22-1 and Gascoigne is 15-2, each has an ERA under 1.19 and is holding an opponents' batting
average under .156. Ricketts has thrown 13 shutouts, Gascoigne has thrown seven and the pair combined on another.
Gascoigne is averaging 11.4 strikeouts per seven innings and has a 7.1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, while Ricketts' marks in those categories stand at 10.3 and 6.8, respectively.
Ricketts has tallied 10 10+ strikeout games this year and now has 73 for her career. Likewise, Gascoigne has 8 this season and 22 in her career.
SOONERS SWEEP TEXAS TECH
The Sooners swept a three-game series at Texas Tech, winning by a combined score of 28-7.
The highlight of game one's 9-0 win was Keilani Ricketts' no-hitter. Shelby Pendley hit two home runs, while Lauren Chamberlain had one.
Ricketts then showed her dual-threat talents by hitting a pair of home runs in Oklahoma's 6-0 win in game two. Chamberlain also homered for the second time in the series and senior Michelle Gascoigne threw a four-hit shutout.
Chamberlain led the way in a 13-7 win in game three with a career-high four hits. She homered, scored three runs, drove in two and stole her team-leading 10th base of the season.
RICKETTS' NO-HITTERS
With her latest no-hitter against Texas Tech, Keilani Ricketts has thrown four in her career and three this year after starting the 2013 season with no-hitters against No. 21 Stanford and No. 5 Oregon.
Ricketts is now tied with Lauren Eckermann for the most no-hitters in school history, and she also joins Eckermann as the only Sooner to throw three no-hitters in a single season. Eckermann accomplished the feat in 2007.
CHAMBERLAIN ON HOME RUN BINGE
Lauren Chamberlain homered in four straight games from April 7-14, tying a school record that she already set and matched this year. She has now homered in four straight games three different times in her career.
According to the NCAA Record Book, a streak of 4+ games had only happened 22 times entering the 2013 season. The all-time record is 6 games accomplished by three different players.
LEADING THE NATION
OU is one of five schools to lead in multiple individual categories and one of three to have two different players lead in seperate categories ... Chamberlain is one of only three players to have a slugging percentage above 1.000 ... Michelle Gascoigne is one of three players in the NCAA with an ERA of 1.00 or lower ... of the 11 team categories tracked by the NCAA, only Oklahoma and Georgia (HR/Game, Slugging) lead in more than one category ... OU ranks in the top 4 of four different categories, more than any other team ... the Sooners are the only school to rank among the top 4 in both a pitching and hitting category
SUCCESS WITH 2 OUTS
OU has enjoyed tremendous success with 2 outs this season. Of the team's 306 runs, 148 have come with 2 outs (48.4 %). Oklahoma has had 14 games this year where it has scored 5+ runs with 2 outs and eight games with 7+ runs coming with 2 out. In winning two of three games at Texas last weekend, the Sooners scored 11 of their 13 runs with two outs.
