NORMAN, Okla. -- The 30th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team sits in sixth place at 30 over par at the Big 12 Championship in Hutchinson, Kan., after Monday's first round and a partial second round of the competition. The 72-hole event, hosted by Kansas State, is being played at the 6,759-yard, par-70 Prairie Dunes Country Club.
After the first round was delayed for an hour due to weather, the second round was suspended until 11 a.m. CT Tuesday once it became dark. The five Sooners in the competition are currently on holes 15-18. Five golfers compete for each team, and the lowest four scores per round count toward the total score.
In the first round the Sooners recorded a 296 (+16) against a nine-team field that features five other squads ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 50. OU has posted a 14-over-par score so far in the second round. Texas, Oklahoma State and TCU have all completed the first 36 holes, and Texas sits in first place with a 571 (+11).
Three Sooners are in the top 20. Senior Abraham Ancer and freshman Beau Titsworth share 14th place at 6 over par. Ancer carded four birdies in round one en route to a 71 (+1), and is at 5 over par through the first 14 holes of the second round. Titsworth shot 3 over par in the first round and has matched that score so far in the second.
Five spots behind Ancer and Titsworth is junior Michael Schoolcraft, who is in 19th place at 7 over par. Schoolcraft carded a first-round 75 (+5) and has posted a 2-over-par score through 14 second-round holes.
Senior Will Kropp is in 35th place, while freshman Charlie Saxon sits in 39th. Kropp posted a 79 (+9) in the opening round and is at 4 over par in the second with two holes left to play. Saxon recorded a 7-over-par 77 on the first 18 holes and is also at 7 over par with one hole remaining in the second round.
Tuesday's third round of the Big 12 Championship is slated to begin at 1 p.m. CT after the conclusion of round two. The tournament's final 18 holes will be played Wednesday. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com.
