CLEMSON INVITATIONAL PREVIEW
After having the last two weekends off, the University of Oklahoma rowing team returns to the water at the Clemson Invitational on April 20-21 against a highly competitive field. The Sooners, receiving votes in the CRCA/US Rowing national poll, will race eight teams currently ranked in the top 20.
The Clemson Invite will feature three sessions of racing over the two day event, with races in the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, second varsity four and novice eight.
In the first session on Saturday, the Sooners will face No. 3 Virginia, No. 4 Ohio State, No. 18 Louisville, Minnesota and Central Florida. In Saturday's afternoon session, OU will go against Virginia, No. 5 UCLA, No. 13 Michigan, No. 19 Cornell, No. 20 Duke and Oregon State. The final session, on Sunday morning, will feature Oklahoma against No. 14 Clemson, Louisville, Cornell, Duke and Michigan State.
"This weekend will provide a good challenge for all of our boats," head coach Leeanne Crain said. "For the first time this season, we will line up six boats across which will help us prepare for our upcoming championships in May."
Oklahoma's varsity boats have started the season on a great note and boast a combined 29-10 record in both varsity eights and the two varsity fours. The Sooners have posted wins against Big 12 foes Kansas, Kansas State and Texas in addition to Iowa, Minnesota, Oregon State and Tulsa and San Diego this season.

OU's varsity four claimed this year's first Conference USA award on March 19 after a 3-0 start to the season at the OU Invitational. The Sooners defeated Minnesota, Tulsa and Kansas on the Oklahoma River.
The second varsity eight was named the C-USA Boat of the Week on March 26 thanks to a perfect weekend at the Longhorn Invitational. They helped OU undefeated in the varsity races and win the regatta in Austin, Texas.
Oklahoma's varsity eight earned the first Big 12 Boat of the Week on March 27 after the boat went 4-0 at the Longhorn Invite. OU defeated conference rivals Texas and Kansas State as well as Tulsa and San Diego to complete a 15-race sweep of the varsity events.
The Sooners' second varsity eight beat Oregon State by 11.6 seconds and suffered two close defeats to No. 2 California and No. 9 Stanford at the Pac 12 Challenge in Redwood City, Calif., March 30-31.

Oklahoma beat Oregon State and fell to No. 2 California and No. 9 Stanford at the Pac 12 Challenge March 30-31 in Redwood City, Calif.
The Sooners beat Oregon State with wins in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four before a close defeat in the novice eight.

THE SPRING AHEAD
The Big 12 Championships await the Sooners on May 4 in Kansas City, Kan. After
hosting the event last season, OU travels to Lake Wyndotte looking for their
first conference championship.
Also a member of Conference USA, OU will race at the Conference USA Championships
on May 18 in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The Sooners will look to build off a third-place
finish at last year's event. The winner receives an automatic bit to the NCAA Championship.
The season concludes on May 31-June 2 at the NCAA Championship in Indianapolis.
The national title races head to Eagle Creek Park for the second time in the 17-year
history of the event.
CELEBRATING FIVE SEASONS OF OU ROWING
The 2012-13 season marks the fifth year rowing has been a Division I sport
at Oklahoma. Established in 2008-09, the Sooners have been led by head coach
Leeanne Crain since Day One.
OU's home is the Exchange Boathouse on the Oklahoma River, part of Oklahoma
City's Boathouse District. With three boathouses and a new four-story finish
line tower, the Boathouse District is one of the world's premiere sites for
rowing. The Sooners share their home course on the scenic Oklahoma River with
the United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center.
The Sooners compete in both the Big 12 Conference and Conference USA. Big
12 rivals Kansas, Kansas State, Texas and West Virginia also sponsor rowing.
Since six teams are needed in a conference to earn an automatic bid in the NCAA
Championship, OU will also race for a Conference USA championship against eight
other schools, including Kansas, Kansas State, SMU, Tennessee, Texas, Tulsa,
UCF and West Virginia.
