NORMAN, Okla. -- After the second round of play was suspended until Sunday morning due to darkness, the 33rd-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team sits in sixth place at the 14-team Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Ga. The tournament is being played at the 7,073-yard, par-72 Great Waters course at Reynolds Plantation.
Thirty-six holes of the tournament were slated for Saturday, but a two-hour-and-18-minute rain and thunder delay halted the first round and resulted in the suspension of play once it became dark.
The Sooners, who are one of six ranked squads in the field, carded a first-round 295 (+7) to tie for fifth with 11th-ranked Georgia Tech. So far in the second round, OU has shot even par through 12, 13 or 14 holes, placing it 20 strokes behind leader and second-ranked Alabama.
Competing as an individual and unattached from team scoring, OU sophomore Michael Gellerman is tied for first place with Alabama's Cory Whitsett at 5 under par. Gellerman fired a first-round 68 (five birdies) and is at 1 under par in the second round through 12 holes. He was at 3 over par through the first seven holes of the second round but played the last three at 4 under (eagled the par-5 second hole).
Sharing 27th place, OU junior Michael Schoolcraft and freshman Beau Titsworth are at 2 over par. Schoolcraft started the second round in 35th place after shooting a first-round 75 (+3), while Titsworth recorded a 5-over-par 77 on the opening 18.
Senior Will Kropp is tied for 31st place after scoring a first-round 72 (E) and is 3 over par through 12 holes in the second round. Junior Eduardo Castiello carded a 71 (-1) in the first round and currently sits at 4 over par, while senior Abraham Ancer is 7 over par.
The second round will resume at 7:30 a.m. CT Sunday, with the final round slated to begin immediately after. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com.
