NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's golf team carded a three-round 867 (+3) to place second at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas, eight strokes behind tournament champion and host Houston. The 54-hole tournament was played at the 7,125-yard, par-72 Laredo Country Club.

The 34th-ranked Sooners, who began the final round in fourth place, recorded a third-round 285 (-3), their best single-round score of the weekend. OU was one of three squads in the 14-team field ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 50.

"Overall, I am pleased with our last two rounds," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "I saw some good things this week, and I feel like we are a lot closer (to where we want to be) than after our Vegas trip."

Four Sooners finished in the top 15, with Abraham Ancer placing in a team-best fourth place out of 79 competitors. The senior placed finished the tournament at 1 under par, his second top-five showing of the season. He recorded a 74 (+2) in the final round.

Junior Michael Schoolcraft finished tied for fifth place, his second time in the top 5, as he concluded the event at even par. Schoolcraft shot a 73 (+1) on Saturday.

Senior Will Kropp and freshman Beau Titsworth shared 12th place after each shot a three-round 218 (+2). The duo began the day tied for 33rd place and each recorded a 3-under-par 69 in the final round. Kropp pocketed six birdies in the round, while Titsworth registered five.

"Kropp and Titsworth played really good rounds today, and Schoolcraft is playing some of his best golf," Hybl said. "We just need to do the small things way better, and we will be OK."

Eloy Gonzalez tied for 33rd place at 8 over par after shooting a 2-over 74 in the final round. It was the freshman's first tournament in the team lineup this spring.

Competing as individuals, junior Eduardo Castiello tied for 23rd place with a three-round 222 (+6) and sophomore Michael Gellerman finished the tournament at 11 over par.

The Sooners return to action Saturday, March 23, when they compete in the Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Ga.
