NORMAN, Okla. -- After the first two rounds of the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas, the 34th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team sits in fourth place. The 54-hole tournament, hosted by Houston, is being played at the 7,125-yard, par-72 Laredo Country Club.

OU, one of three squads in the 14-team field ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 50, recorded a two-round 582 (+6) and is just three strokes behind co-leaders Baylor (ranked 39th) and Central Arkansas. The Sooners followed a first-round 294 (+6) with an even-par performance in the second round, where all five of the Sooners in the lineup fired a 2-over par or better.

"Overall, I don't think we are where we are supposed to be as a team," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "I think we had a chance this afternoon to play really well, but we just didn't make enough putts, and it shows. Everyone (on the team) is a little displeased, but at the end of the day, we have a chance to go win tomorrow. We are only three strokes off the lead, and that can be made up within the first hole. It will be a grind tomorrow, and hopefully our guys will respond with some firepower and play a good round of golf."

Senior Abraham Ancer led the way for the Sooners, carding a two-round 141 (-3) to finish the day in second place, six strokes behind leader James Newton of Central Arkansas. Ancer shot a 2-under-par 70 in the first round and countered with a 1-under-par performance later in the day.

Michael Schoolcraft also shot an under-par second round with a 71 (-1) to go along with an even-par showing in the first round. The junior, who recorded six birdies and just five bogeys on the day, is tied for fifth place.

Senior Will Kropp and freshman Beau Titsworth are tied for 33rd place after each fired a two-round 149 (+5). Kropp carded birdies on the last three holes of the second round. In his first appearance in the team lineup this spring, freshman Eloy Gonzalez scored a two-round 150 (+6) and is tied for 41st place.

Competing as individuals, junior Eduardo Castiello is tied for 15th place at 2 over par, while sophomore Michael Gellerman recorded a 153 (+9) on the day (tied for 52nd place).
