NORMAN, Okla. -- In its final tournament of the fall, the 12th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team finished in a tie for sixth place with a 7-under-par 1058. The event was played at the 7,068-yard, par-71 Royal Oaks Country Club located in Dallas, Texas.
The 12-team event featured a format in which six players competed per team, with the five lowest scores counting toward the team total. OU shot a final-round 352 (-3) against a field that includes seven squads ranked in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Poll, including the Sooners.
The Sooners began the third and final round from hole No. 10 and were paired with Texas A&M and UT Arlington. Oklahoma State won the event with a 1029 (-36), while Kevin Dougherty of OSU claimed the individual title with an 11-under 202.
Michael Gellerman was the highest finisher for the Sooners for the second-consecutive tournament with a three-round 208 (-5), his career-best 54-hole score. The junior fired a 3-under 68 Tuesday, matching his second-round score as his lowest of the season, and tied for 13th place. Gellerman pocketed 12 birdies in the event.
With a career-low 3-under 210, junior Charlie Saxon claimed a share of 20th place. Saxon shot a bogey-free 68 (-3) in the final 18 holes. The top-20 finish is Saxon's fourth in as many events this season.
Senior Michael Schoolcraft carded a 1-under 70 Tuesday, bringing his three-round total to 211 (-2), good for a share of 22nd place. Tied for 45th place were sophomore Beau Titsworth and freshman Max McGreevy, who recorded scores of 217 (+4). McGreevy eagled the par-5 hole No. 18 Tuesday.
In his first team event of the season, senior Eduardo Castiello shot a 5-over 218 for the tournament and a 73 (+2) in Tuesday's final round, tying him for 49th place.
The Sooners will return to the course February 10-11 as they travel to San Antonio, Texas, to compete in the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational.
