USA Moves to 4-0 With Two Wins Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The USA Softball National Team remained the World Cup of Softball's lone undefeated team with wins over the Netherlands, 2-1, and Canada, 9-0, on Saturday in Oklahoma City. OU's Keilani Ricketts and Jessica Shults both picked up starts for the American team with Shults starting behind the plate against the Netherlands and Ricketts getting the start in the pitching circle against Canada.
The U.S. opened the day with a 2-1 win over the Netherlands in a game that saw Shults get the start for the American team behind the plate. In a game that the U.S. stranded eight runners on base, both teams scored a single run in the fifth inning before Valerie Arioto led off the sixth inning with a game-winning home run for the Americans.
USA returned to the field later in the evening looking for its second run-rule win over its North American neighbors in the last week and got just that as Ricketts claimed the pitching victory in five innings of action. The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year struck out six Canadian batters while allowing four hits and no walks.
The American team out hit its Canadian counterparts, 11-4, including two home runs and one double to move to 4-0 and guarantee a spot in Monday night's title game.
Ricketts, Shults and the American squad return to action Sunday at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium as they take on Brazil at 12 p.m. in a game that will be televised on ESPN2.
