OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Oklahoma's Keilani Ricketts made her official 2012 USA Softball debut Friday night in the American's 3-1 win over Australia at the World Cup of Softball. After OU teammate Jessica Shults helped the U.S. to an opening win in the event Thursday night, Ricketts started the game as the designated player and entered the pitching circle in the fifth inning of action.

The USA Softball Collegiate Softball Players of the Year, Ricketts walked in her second appearance at the plate in the fourth inning before being replaced on the base path by Amanda Chidester. Ricketts' walk led to the American's second run of the game as Chidester eventually moved to second before scoring off a Lauren Gibson double.

Ricketts entered the pitching circle to begin the fifth inning and pitched two and two-thirds of an inning. The lefthander struck out on Australian while allowing three hits and the Aussies' lone run of the game.

Ricketts, Shults and the American squad return action Saturday at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium as they take on the Netherlands at 11 a.m. in a game that will be televised on ESPN2 before facing Canada at 6 p.m. in a game aired on ESPN. Both the U.S. (2-0) and the Netherlands (3-0) enter the game with undefeated records at the World Cup.
